The Premier, Mike Rann, will have a reduced majority in the 52nd parliament of South Australia, elected on March 20. In one of those quirks of electoral distribution, Labor will govern with 26 of the 47 seats although they won only 48.5 per cent of the vote to the Liberals’ 51.5 per cent
Commenting on the swing against his government, Premier Rann promised to reconnect with the public. “I recognise we suffered big swings, but I promise to listen and reconnect in a positive way.”
The Water Election Team will be watching to see if this includes listening to those who are critical of water policies. We note that Minister Karlene Maywald, the only minister whose party did not complete the WET questionnaire, lost her rural seat of Chaffey to Liberal Tim Whetstone with a 19% swing.
